Grameen Motsho O Pashu Sampad Foundation has been executing the Command Area Development Project: part-C (Asian Development Bank loan no. 1399 BAN (SF) for Small Scale Fisheries Development in Santhia, Bera, Sujanagar upazilla of Pabna district. For implementing the project activities an agreement was signed on 31.11.99 between GMPF and Directorate of Fisheries.

GMPF has been organizing the ponds, borrow-pits, and irrigation canals of Pabna Irrigation and Rural Development Project owners preferably landless poor, marginal farmers, fishermen, hatchery/nursery operators, net makers and sellers and other aquaculture related persons. GMPF has already organized 486 groups of 4975 beneficiaries, and gave them training in fish culture, gender issues, social development issues, legal awareness etc. It covers 3 upazillas, 26 unions, 220 villages, and 508 hectors of water areas. Table below shows numbers of groups and members formed under this project.

The exceptionality of the project is to give micro credit to the beneficiaries not in the form of ‘cash’ but in the form of ‘input’. During the project period the project disbursed Tk. 17.05 million as input credit to the beneficiaries and the recovery rate is 81.37% of target. After completion of the project period as on 30 June, 2003, GMPF has been continuing its activities with the Revolving Fund already provided by GoB from realisation of Loan installments of the farmers for another five years and so on.
