Empowerment of Coastal Fishing Community for Livelihood Security Project (GoB/UNDP/FAO Project: BGD/98/017)
 
Grameen Motsho O Pashusampad Foundation has been executing the Social Mobilization Component of “The Empowerment of Coastal Fishing Communities and Livelihood Security project BGD/97/017 in Cox’s Bazar, Ramu, Teknaf, Ukiya, Moheskhali, Kutubdia upazillas under Cox’s Bazar district covering 65 fishing villages, and 149 village organizations. This project is basically a social mobilization and community empowerment project, which attempts to address a set of wide ranging issues by mobilising a multi sectoral support and following a multidimensional approach. The project engages a numbers of service providers from the private sector to assist the project in achieving its objectives within the given framework of project concept, strategy, and institutional arrangements. The developmental objective of the project is to promote livelihood security of the poor coastal fishing communities. The immediate objectives are to:
 
  i)
assist the communities to empower themselves to collectively address their problems and needs;
  ii)
introduce various economic and community approaches which are operated and managed by the community organizations; and
  iii)
Facilitate sustainable conservation and management of coastal marine and estuarine fisheries resources and habitats through strengthening of community based management of the resources.
Activities carried out under ECFC Project are as follows:

Community Mapping/PRA
2.
Formation of Village Organisations (VO)
3.
Formation of Village Development Committee (VDC)
4.
Development and Adoption of VO Constitutions.
5
Formulation of Code of Conduct for V.O. members.

Developing VD Financial Resources.
7.
Opening of Bank Accounts for VOs.

Imparting Training in Account Keeping and recording Financial Resources, Organisation and Management, Leadership, Participatory Planning & Management and Conflict Resolution Skill.

Conduct regularly fortnightly meetings.
.10.
Organise motivational gatherings.
11.
Organise Focused Group Discussions.
12.
V.O. Net working at Union, Upazilla and district level administrations.
13.
Linkages with allied Govt. departments, Local bodies, Krishi Bank, Commercial Banks, MF’s etc.
14.
Empowerment of VOs/VDCs.
15.
Sustainability of food security and Livelihood.
