Background Information of GMPF
Grameen Motsho Foundation (GMF) renamed as Grameen Motsho O Pashusampad Foundation (GMPF)- is a sister organisation of Grameen Bank (GB)- a specialised bank globally well known for its commitment towards poverty alleviation through micro-credit facilities for the enhancement of socio-economic status of the poor people of Bangladesh. In order to address the poverty issue more effectively, GB undertook sectoral interventions in the fields of agriculture & irrigation, handloom and textiles, health, education, housing, small industries, solar energy, electronic communications such as Grameen Phone, Grameen Telecom, Palli Phones (rural telephones), fisheries and livestock etc. for the balanced development of the rural economy of Bangladesh. With this end in view GB acquired some fisheries development projects during 1986-88 from the Govt. of Bangladesh on long term lease basis. After successful implementation of these projects, GB decided to create a separate and independent Organization to manage and develop the highly potential Integrated Fish Farming, Livestock, Horticulture and Social afforestation through community participation of rural poor and landless men and women. This led to the creation of GMPF.
GMF was established on 06 February, 1994 as a separate legal entity and was registered with the Joint Stock Company of the Govt. of Bangladesh under Companies Act (Act VII of 1913) as a limited company. The foundation is an association not for profit, within the meaning of section 26 of the Companies Act; organized and established for helping the poor, the landless and the assetless and poor women in order to enable them to gain access to resources for their productive self-employment, to encourage them to undertake income generating activities for poverty alleviation and for enhancing their quality of life. The GMF is also registered with the NGO affairs Bureau.
The GMF Board of Directors have decided to introduce community based integrated approach of fish crop-livestock and social afforestation and environmental upgradation activities for balanced and sustainable development of the rural poor people of Bangladesh. The Board had changed the title of the Grameen Motsho Foundation (GMF) to Grameen Motsho O Pashusampad Foundation(GMPF). On January 15, 2003 the title of Grameen Motsho Foundation (GMF) was changed to Grameen Motsho O Pashusampad Foundation(GMPF) by the registrar of Joint Stock companies and firms.
The affairs of the GMPF are run by a Governing Body consisting of nine members. The company is headed by a Managing Director as the Chief Executive and a General Manager to implement the policies formulated by the Governing Body.
