GMPF was created to provide rural landless poor specially women to gain access to common resource properties to the ‘have-nots’, replace exploition with community empowerment; stagnation with social and economic growth, age old traditions with development and modernity, desperations with hopes, non sensitivity of women with legal rights and gender issues; starvation with food security and nutrition and poverty with sustainable livelihood through an integrated fish-crop-livestock and dairy development farming system.

Grameen Fisheries Foundation (GMF) was created by Grameen Bank as a non-profit organization in February, 1994 to mitigate poverty through aquaculture & fisheries activities. Its functions and activities were expanded in the year 2000 to integrate livestock and dairy development activities through the introduction of Community Livestock and Dairy Development Project: BGD/98/009 sponsored by Ministry of Finance, GoB, funded by UNDP with technical assistance of FAO and executed by GMF. The name of Grameen Motsho Foundation (Grameen Fisheries Foundation) was changed to Grameen Motsho O Pashusampad Foundation (Grameen Fisheries and Livestock Foundation) and was registered with the Joint stock Companies, Govt. of Bangladesh on January 15, 2003. |
